Natukwatsa arrived in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in 2007. The only work he could do to earn a living was digging in other people’s plantations. He endeavored to save part of what he would earn and in 2011, he invested in a shop to sell commonly needed commodities. In 2019, he got to know about UGAFODE Microfinance Limited when it opened a branch in Nakivale. He inquired about their services, which include savings, loans and money transfer products. In 2020, Natukwatsa opened up an account with UGAFODE and got a loan of sh15m. After paying it back, he got another loan of UGX20m and another of UGX20m. These loans have enabled him to expand his businesses and increase on the variety of stock he sells in the shop.
Natukwatsa says he is grateful to UGAFODE for opening up a branch in the settlement, thus, bringing financial services nearer to them because previously, they would have to travel long distances to the trading centre to access financial institutions.
