- Prof. Ben KiregyeraChairperson Board of DIrectorsProf. Kiregyera is the founder and Chairperson of DevInfCo. He is an internationally renowned statistician, the 2005 winner of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis Prize for Statistics for “for lifetime achievement in statistics and promotion of best statistical practice in developing countries”, the first Director of the African Centre for Statistics at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and first Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics. He has been at the forefront of the statistical renaissance and associated statistical architecture in Africa. Prof. Kiregyera has assisted many countries in Africa to reform their statistical systems and/or design their Statistical Master Plans/National Strategies for the Development of Statistics. He led a team of international consultants that designed the Reference Regional Strategic Framework for Statistical Capacity Building in Africa (RRSF) and wrote the first documentation on NSDS that was published by PARIS21 (Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century).He is the initiator and Co-chair of the Editorial Board of the African Statistical Journal which is published by the African Development Bank, the initiator and member of the editorial Board of the African Statistical Newsletter which is published by the African Centre for Statistics at UNECA. He belongs to a number of international professional associations.
- Mr. Michel DuboisDirectorA seasoned professional banker with 37 years of experience within three large organizations, having worked in 8 different countries and on three continents. He has been responsible a number one of 10 various set up (branch, subsidiary, bureau) of Paribas and BNP Paribas among them and he had the opportunity to create two new set of the bank in Russia and Saudi Arabia. His management skills and personal behavior have enabled him to operate efficiently with people of various race nationally and religion. He has dealt with some of the biggest corporate worldwide such as Kwaneer (USA) TOTAL both in Africa and the Middle East, the top five Chaebol of South Korea, Lukoil, Sibneft, Gasprom to name but a few.
- Ms. Olive KabatalyaDirectorOlive is a financial services expert having accumulated 12 years hands-on operational experience in banking and over 20 years in microfinance institutions capacity building as a consultant. She has served in several countries in Africa and Asia and was part of two project teams that laid the foundation of microfinance capacity building in Uganda and Cambodia. Her employment experience has been with the Uganda Commercial Bank (Now Stanbic Bank), the United Nations, Chemonics International, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Enterprising Solutions Global.
- Mr. Robert OngodiaDirectorRobert is a financial services expert with over 20 years of hands-on operational experience in banking, Impact Investing, microfinance, SME lending, and financial sector regulation. He has achieved positive results in the non-profit, public, private and educational sectors, including: transforming of non-profit MFIs to for-profit institutions and subsequent turn-around of MFIs from loss making to profitable ventures and strengthening financial sector regulation. Worked in institutions like Centenary Bank, Bank of Uganda, FINCA, MicroVest Capital Management LLC, and Accion International.
- Mr. John LwandeDirectorJohn is a microfinance services expert with over 25 years hands on experience working with commercial banks and MFIs on microfinance design and implementation. He has vast experience at both executive and board level working with banks and MFIs in several African countries including Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Congo DRC, Malawi, Uganda and South Africa. He has turned around several institutions the most recent one being Akiba Commercial Bank in Tanzania where he served as the Managing Director for years. Prior to that he helped build and grow FINCA operations in the Africa region, and the microfinance lending program at the National Microfinance Bank Tanzania before divestiture. From scratch he designed and implemented a community banking project with the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe. John is currently the Program Director for the Africa Board Fellowship program, implemented by CFI at Accion. The governance program focuses on board dynamics, technology trends and innovations, risk management strategies, strategic planning, new business models, competitive and challenging environments and client centricity.
- Mr. Douglas YoungDirectorMr. Young is the Managing Director of Equity at MicroVest, joining the team in 2006. In this role, Mr. Young is responsible for all the of firm’s Private Equity portfolio, as well as for the development and implementation of new equity strategies. Prior to transitioning to Managing Director of Equity in 2017, Mr. Young served in various positions with MicroVest – as Chief Investment Officer since 2014 and previously as the Managing Director of Investments and Investment Director, Latin America. He provided senior leadership on due diligence teams and overall portfolio management for Latin America and the Caribbean. Mr. Young started his financial career in 1996 and has experience in auditing and microfinance. Prior to joining MicroVest, Mr. Young was as a senior manager with the Ernst & Young Capital Markets Group in Santiago, Chile, where he managed Chilean cross-border transactions in the energy and banking sectors. Mr. Young also worked for Arthur Andersen in Baltimore auditing publicly-traded healthcare, broadcasting and technology firms. Mr. Young received an MBA from the University of California – Berkeley, Haas School of Business. While pursuing his graduate studies, he initiated a student-led microfinance speaker series and won the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship’s Best MBA Paper in 2005. Mr. Young also studied at the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Young is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Loyola College in Maryland where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. After leaving Loyola College, Mr. Young served for a year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in metro Atlanta where he worked for the Taskforce for the Homeless, a well-respected homeless advocacy and service organization. Mr. Young is fluent in English and Spanish.
- Mrs. Joyce Mary AcigwaDirectorMrs. Joyce Acigwa is a banking professional with over 25 years hands on operational experience in banking and working with rural and peri-urban communities. Joyce is one of the founders of Uganda Agency for Development Limited which later transformed into UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI).She sits on the Boards of Uganda Development Trust (UDET) and East African Premier Investments Limited (EAPIL). She was the Chairperson of Uganda Agency for Development Limited (UGAD) a shareholder of UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) from 2012 to 2017. Before assuming the position, she was the Resident Director of UGAFODE Microfinance Limited from July 2009 to July 2010 during its transition from an NGO to an MDI. She worked with Stanbic Bank Uganda and Uganda Commercial Bank in various capacities between 1984 and 2008. She was also a trainer at the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services where she contributed to the development and revision of the syllabus in Banking and Management, Leadership skills including Microfinance approaches and practices.
- Mrs. Juliet TumuzoireDirectorJuliet is a dedicated professional and seasoned leader with over 10 years’ strategic management experience in the financial services industry with specific experiential knowledge in banking and financial services. She began her career in Insurance, then into banking where she spent 14 years and has proven experience in Digital Finance operations under the Mobile Network Operator-led model; designing and building innovative operational initiatives for both mass and niche clientele, From banking, Juliet moved into MTN Uganda to head the mobile financial services operations that covers Digital payments, Agent Management (none-trade), Mobile Financial Services (MFS) KYC and Customer Acceptance management, Agent/Partner Account services, new product/services, system enhancement operational support and value chain payments design as well as coordinating customer operations support. Juliet continues to be the operational liaison in-country and at regional level with policy makers and implementers in the areas of Digital/Mobile payments, Financial inclusion, Anti-Money Laundering/and Anti-Terrorism Financing and National Payments policy design; also being an interlocutor at both national and regional forums. She also has exposure of interrelating with development partners and industry influencers in the areas of research, regulation and Anti-Money Laundering/ counter terrorism financing. Juliet holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Risk Management & Finance, an MBA in Behavioral Sciences and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial & Fine Arts.
- Shafi NambobiChief Executive OfficerMr. Nambobi is a microfinance expert with over 19 years’ experience in microfinance with strong leadership and institutional capacity building skills. He began his career as a Credit Officer (Promoter) in FINCA Uganda in 1997 before assuming positions of credit supervisor, branch manager and in 2001 becoming Regional Manager. Between 2002 and 2006, Mr. Nambobi was the deputy operations manager in charge of village banking and later Supervision, Policy Compliance and managing Special Projects. In April 2006, he moved to Uganda Finance Trust as the Chief Manager Operations, a position he held up to April 2009 before becoming the Chief Operating Officer for FINCA Malawi for two years. He then joined Tujijenge Tanzania under AMSCO Manager Secondment program as Managing Director/Board member from April 2011 until December 2015. He then joined Premier Credit Uganda as Chief Executive Officer/Board member before joining UGAFODE Microfinance Ltd (MDI) in May 2017 as Chief Executive Officer/Board member. Mr. Nambobi has a Bachelors’ degree in Public Administration specialized in Human Resource management and development, Masters in Microfinance, Diploma in Banking Management and PGD in Financial Management.
