Clemence is a single mother of three who also provides for her sister with whom she lives. She lost her husband when the children were very young and she did not have relatives to run to. So, she fled from Rwanda to Uganda and settled in Nakivale Settlement where she started a small shop to earn a living.

Clemence first struggled to maintain the shop until she approached UGAFODE for a loan. She has since acquired several loans from UGAFODE, which she pays back as required.

Clemence used one of the loans to stock an assortment of drinks which were on high demand by the customers. This helped her to increase her income and diversify into constructing lodging units, which increased her income further.

With her improved financial status, Clemence became a role model among the refugee community and many of them go to her for advice.  She is now able to pay for her children’s education. She thanks UGAFODE for the financial support.
